In This Moment It Feels So Right
Last night, I went to a concert I've been dieing to see for, like, ever. Ah, Dave Matthews Band. I know, I know. You either love em or you hate em, and I know plenty that hate him. But last night, I sat in the vastness of people that love them. And that was very very nice. What a wonderful wonderful show. Sure Dave was so far away that he was about the size of my pinkie, but still. I was there. He was there. The whole amazing band was there. It was an absolutely beautiful night, too. And I hate to be outside. But I sat (and stood) in the well kept grass for three hour. And thats how much I love this band. It was better than I could have imagined. Even with the sound equipment having a few issues... which they thankfully fixed before the encore. Hopefully next time (and there will certainly be a next time) we can afford some tickets up front.
I checked their website, and they have a spot for the set list for each show. I'm waiting for mine to be updated and then I'll post that.
Oooo, apparently the band and crew agrees: here's a post from their site:
"It was a really fun show in Raleigh tonight. The band seemed to have a blast up there all night. We got to hear #41 for the first time this year. A definite crowd pleaser. We're driving overnight to Atlanta for a show tomorrow night. See y'all there.

11:35 PM EDT"
This morning, we had our "final" walk through of our house. Thank God for Masha. She is one bull dog of a realtor. She walked around with orange circle stickers and used about 1000 of them. While I'm all smitten with my beautiful new home, she's finding dents and dings and scratches and paint chips and caulking issues and sink leaks and the fact that the toilet seat doesnt match the base (by a shade). She really is amazing. So, we have another walk through Thursday night, to make sure all the things Masha wants fixed are fixed. Oh, we also realized that the oven in my kitchen is not the oven we ordered. So, that has to get taken care of too.
I just want to move in!!!
I'll just concentrate on Dave's send off last night "Eat, Drink and Be Merry, For Tomorrow We Die."

I Swear I'm Right
One week till we close on the house!!! And only 4 days till our final walk-through. They started the carpet on Tuesday, so it should be done now. I'm going to stop by after work today and take a look. Other than that, they just have a few touch ups to do around the place and then it'll be ready to hand over! How very very exciting! That is all that's going on in my world. Counting the days and procrastinating the packing.

Blessed and Cursed
The university that employs me definitely has its priorities straight. While I only received a 3.2% raise this year... all 1,650 of its incoming freshman are receiving brand spankin new 20G iPods.
Its hard for me to be upset, though. I mean, out of all routes for Duke to take in their attempts to be at the edge of technology, this is, by far, the coolest. What sucks is that freshman last year, that owned the pretty Mini that was parked in the lot outside my window... he's a sophomore now... and unless he's already enrolled in a class that requires an iPod, he'll have to buy his own. (Though, these are Dukies... I'm sure he already has one).

I Love it When We're Cruisin' Together
In the world of blogging... I think some news in better than no news. I know how it feels when you go to a blog and it hasnt been updated. And I've disappointed you all plenty of times.
Since the only real thing going on in my life is my house.. I'll tell you of the update. We're still closing in 15 days. This morning, on the way to work, I drove by the house to check on the progress. When they were building it... it was pretty easy to tell what was going on... but now, most of the work is inside, so I have to get out of my car and walk around. Which I dont mind. However, this morning, I met my very own tree. He's a handsome tree. Dont ask me what kind, I know nothing about trees and under normal circumstances could care less about a tree. But this tree is mine. And I'll hug him (not literally, gross) and love him and call him Jacques. Maybe one day he'll be as tall as my house (which is really tall!).
Other than Jacques (and the friendly bushes which have yet to be named)... I have a beautiful dishwasher (we'll call her Sally). I have toilets. I have a kitchen sink (and garbage disposal). I have faucets (though I'm not entirely pleased with their selection and wish they would have offered us options...). Oh, and I have a glass shower door in the master bath. I totally wasnt expecting that. I'm more of a shower curtain gal, but I'll give it a shot.
I've started my list for Lowes. Home dwellers... feel free to give me a list of things you didnt realize you would have to buy. I'm sure I'll forget something... and the goal is to get it all in one shot. I can dream, cant I?
The only other thing going on in my life is that my friend Rachel (and her girls) return from Kentucky today. She's been gone for three weeks and it's been KILLING me. Its funny how I only knew her for about a month, and I miss her so much. Steve's pretty pleased that I have a friend like that, being that all my other 'close' friends live in other states. But since my relationship with Rachel is pretty new... I will resist the desire to be waiting on her doorstep when she arrives. That's kind of stalkerish, dontcha think? I will definitely email her tomorrow morning and see if she wants to get together this weekend. Take it slow, Sabrina, take it slow.
Oh! It's Patrick's *%&$!day today. Happy happy *%&$!day, Patrick!!! Cheers!

A Candle's Fickle Flame
It's been a slow week. I know it's only Wednesday... but still. I've spent most of it pouting about the house. I went by yesterday, and the interior is painted. We have a driveway and sidewalk... the stone front is finished, garage door installed. Carpet and appliances are the two big things left. Oh, and toilets... there are still no toilets. Good thing we're all litter box trained... except Belle...
Early this morning, I had Masha, our realtor, call the builders and ask them if we could paint before we closed. She was weary, and she was right. They said no. I was sad.
Then, Chris Heal called. You all know him.
He said he'd been on the phone with Durham for two days (straight?) and finally got someone to agree to bend the rules and inspect our home on time. So, our closing date was bumped back up to July 30. Which is now, 16 days away! Yay!!!!!
So, the whole week, I spent bummed... for no reason. Silly Sabrina. Now, everything is back to the way it should be.
Boy do I have lots to do!

And You Swear Your Love's For Me
Last night, Chris Heal, VP of Something Special at Beazer Homes called. Steve answered, which was probably a good thing, because he handled the news much better than I did. Chris informed us that because of their stupid stupid mistake, we would not be able to close until August 12. Which is two weeks after our original closing date. And though I know in most circumstances two weeks isnt that big of a deal... it pretty much sucks for me.
First off, when I received a nice letter from Beazer Homes, telling me that my final walk-through would be on July 27, and our closing would be on July 29... I wrote it in my calendar. In pen. In RED pen. That's, like, blood.
When Steve told me what he talked about with Chris, I was very upset. My upsettedness increased when Steve said "I expected something like this to happen." What? You expected it and you didnt warn me? Why? Why? Why would you let me go on believing that our closing date was now set in stone with the magical letter, when you expected something INSANE would happen? "You would have told me I was being pesimistic." Damn right I would have. But at least I would have known someone was expecting it.
See, Slava's wedding is August 22. And I was planning to leave for it on August 18th, to allow us some time to visit both our families in the tri-state area. So, if we do still leave on the 18th, we'll only have six days to paint and move in. But since the 12th is a Thursday, and the best day to move with helping hands is a Saturday, that doesnt give us much time at all to paint before moving. Which was an idea I liked very very much.
What also sucks is that the people that would help us move, because we helped some of them, will all be in Myrtle Beach at a Leadership Conference from the 12-14. Excellent.
And the real kicker is this... the house will be done in 19 days. But we cant HAVE it for 34 days. Because of them. Because SOME GUY forgot to turn in SOME PLANS to SOME DURHAM.
There is a good thing. Mr. Chris offered to pay our last months rent, since it's their fault we're not moving in at the beginning of the month.
But dont think that makes up for it, Chris Heal. Cause it doesnt.

But She Wont Discover That It's Him Till Chapter Three
Here are some pictures from Emily's wedding. I'm lazy and dont feel like making thumbnails, so click on the link for the photo.

Next are a few I took in black and white at the capitol. The original plan was for their photographer to follow their limo into DC and take pictures of them at several famous DC spots. On Friday, the photographer called and said she couldnt do that part. Emily quickly said "That's okay, Sabrina'll do it. She took a photography class at Liberty." Which obviously makes me a good photographer.

Wont Go To Bed Till I'm Legally Wed
This past weekend was my great friend Emily's wedding. Steve and I drove up to DC for the occassion. I was a beautiful bridesmaid in my periwinkle dress. The wedding ran pretty smoothly, despite the groom misplacing his vows moments before the wedding, and the limo breaking down just ask they were about to leave the reception. But everything worked out well enough.
One wedding down, one more to go.
Hopefully I'll post some pictures before the end of the week.
