You Live in a Zoo

Today marks the day that I've been blogging for a year. 132 posts. 15 comments.
So, I thought, in honor of the day, I'd give you some fun. Over the year, I've started most of my posts with a song lyric... I know a lot of people do this.. but I started it, damnit.
For your boredom, here are the lyrics I've posted over the past year. You guess the song and who sang it. Bonus points for figuring out the singer I posted the most. Some time next week, I'll post the answers.

I Lost You to the Summer Wind

With summer nearly here, I thought I'd take some time to discuss the TV shows that have graced the Sabrina Line-up this season. As this was the first season without Dawson's Creek (may it rest in peace), I had a bit of a shakey start. And though I know no show can ever replace The Creek, some shows did make Wednesday night a whole lot easier.
But, before we get to the newcomers, lets dicuss the returners.
Everwood I cant get enough of my WB teen dramas. But what I enjoy most about this show are the family dynamics. It's no 7th Heaven. Thank God. And it was, by far, my favorite series finale. See, I like a hopeful season finale. Leaving you thinking "Boy are they gonna have a great summer. I cant wait to hear how well it went for them." Everwood definitely provided this for me.
Gilmore Girls Just finishing its third season, this show has had its ups and downs. But I stuck with it, because I do love the characters, and I knew the writers would eventually bring us back to why I love the characters. And they did, they gave us what we've been waiting three years for... Lorelai and Luke. Yay!
Smallville I dropped Smallville this season. At some point, I realized I could not watch this show for an entire season and it would still be in the same place. Clark would be in love with Lana. Lana would have her head in the sand. Lex would be almost evil. A show needed to be dropped, and it was Smallville. No regrets.
Scrubs I didnt watch Scrubs religiously. But that's NBC's fault for switching it around too much. But I do enjoy the show. And not just because Noel (Scott Foley) from Felicity was on it this season. It truly is its own kind of funny.
Friends I was very pleased with the series finale of Friends. I was worried that it would be all emotional and no classic funny, but they did a very good job balancing it out. And its not like it's really gone. It's still on 40 times a day. We'll survive.
ER I cant stop watching this show. What impresses me about this drama is the way they can rotate characters off the show and still keep it going. There is no main character for the series. The ER itself is the only constant. I love that.
Alias JJ, sweet JJ. JJ Abrams is a man who knows how to keep little Sabrina's heart beating. He's managed to create this completely unrealistic world (well, at least I hope its unrealistic) and I believe it. I really really really want to know what Sydney was never supposed to find out. Unfortunately, I have to wait 7 months because ABC sucks and isnt starting the season till January.
On to the new shows!
Las Vegas What a great show this turned out to be! I actually didnt intend to watch this show, but Steve wanted to watch it for the red head's boobs... so I figured I'd give it a shot. It's turned out to be a very enjoyable show, with interesting plot lines, lovable characters and neat camera shots and CG.
One Tree Hill I could stand to not watch this show. I'm glad that Chad Michael Murray went from his small parts on Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek to his own WB show. But I'm not very attached.
The O.C. This is the show. If I had to recommend one show for you to get on board with, it would be The O.C. Drama drama at its best... but what made this show absolutely wonderful was Adam Brody. LOVE him. Adam Brody was on Gilmore Girls for a short time, and I absolutely loved him there. Which is the main reason I started watching The O.C. But he really is great. Anyone will love the character of Seth Cohen. Smart and sarcastic but sweet and so so lovable. Also, came the surprise of Peter Gallagher. He made fun of his own eyebrows! I think this man finally found his niche. Love it. You must watch.
Joan of ArcadiaThe "Christians" were worried about this show. The premise being a girl who sees and speaks to God, and he tells her to do things. They thought it might be blasphemous, and certainly the possibility was there, it is network television. What bummed be out was that so many people didnt watch the show because they 'thought' it might be blasphemous. Uh, how bout giving it a chance? What it turned out to be was the perfect perfect show! At least for me. Though my relationship with God is not as clear cut at Joan's... I certainly have my moments where I feel like shaking my fist at Him and demanding to know 'why?'. This show did an excellent job at showing how a skeptic could come to faith, and the struggles that faith might bring with it. I highly recommend this show.
Oh, and lets not forget the shows that keep it going year round. Three cheers for The Daily Show, Trading Spaces and the return of Punk'd (I knew it).

Well, thats it. Thank the Lord for Deevo, the DVR that made watching TV a new experience. It's been a great season. Hopefully some of the summer show releases will be worth watching.
Tune in, Groove on, Bust out.

I Just Don't Want to Miss You Tonight

My house is actually beginning to turn into a house! It's not just dirt anymore. Monday morning I discovered that I now have a slab. My very own concrete! Yay! And this morning, there is already the frame to the first floor. Hello doorway! Hello garage doorway! Hello lots of geese enjoying the early morning dew (that would be the part where the record player scratches). Geese!
Durham geese make me laugh... cause they just dont get it. I dont know if maybe they are confused... I guess prior to my house being there, it was enjoyable land for birds. But thats not all... one early Sunday morning, I was on my way to church, when I drove up to a flock of geese in the middle of the on-ramp onto 40. They were very much in they way of my driving. Luckily there were no other cars around (it was that early). I inched up towards them, but they wouldn't budge. Just sort of stood there... moving their legs, but not really going anywhere. So, I put my car in park and got out and chased them onto the side.
This morning I didnt chase the birds in front of and beside my new house. I think eventually they'll figure it out.

In other news: my brother is coming to visit in 12 days. :) My brother is 12 (almost 13) and lives in Florida. I havent seen him since... wow... January of 2003. I decided, since he's about to entire his first year of Junior High (7th grade, down there) that maybe a bit of quality time with the coolest sister in the world was necessary. So, I offered to buy him a plane ticket to spend the week with me (and the Steve). He seems way excited about it. Really, I just want a chance to talk to him. I remember Junior High (I actually went to the same school he's going to). I think it would have been nice to have a cool adult to talk to. So, hopefully I can get the point across that he can talk to me about anything, and I'll try to give him real advice. Wish me luck.

Drag You Down

Blog who?

I want to apologize to everyone, and I mean everyone (that uses the U-Scan line at Kroger). It is entirely my fault that they have added a loud obnoxious beep to 'remind' you to get your money when you ask for cash back.
You may remember way back when, June 17, 2003, I forgot my 20 bucks at the U-Scan. It was my stupidity and my stupidity alone (along with the thousands of other people that must have forgotten their cash) that has caused Kroger to upgrade from a nice computer woman saying "Please take your cash from the tray below the receipt printer" (or something like that) to "BEEP BEEP BEEP" then you grab your cash in hopes of stopping the beeping but it continues as you run out the door.
All my fault. Please forgive me.

It's Unnatural

I am having the busiest work week ever. I'm staying late, coming in early, taking short lunches, barely talking to people online, and certainly not blogging. In fact, I've started two blogs, and havent been able to finish them. I realize it's only Tuesday, but the forecast for the week remains the same. Busy, busy and effing busy.
The worst part is... nobody at work seems to care. They all see that I am NEVER busy, so one week of busyness isnt a big deal. But it IS! When you're not used to be busy, a busy week is ten times worse than always being busy.
This is Sabrina, whining.
I must go home.

I Can See Clearly Now

Or, I will be seeing clearly in a week. I finally took the plunge and ordered my first pair of glasses. It took me almost a month to come to the conclusion that, no matter what, I wont like myself in a pair of glasses. So, I might as well go with what everyone else seems to like (and everyone else, in this case, is my husband). Super (Duper) Target was having a 40% lenses and frames sale that ends tomorrow. After much procrastinating, I made it over there today on my lunch break.
I walked into the optometry shop, straight to the glasses I wanted. Put them on one more time, took them off and walked up to the eye guy. "Okay, I'll take these." I said. He gave me this "yeah right" look and then asked me to put them on. I did, and he said "Wow, those are perfect for you. That- that's amazing! I think you've broken a record. Guys take longer than that!" I laughed and then corrected him, letting him know that I had been in at least three times before to try on those glasses. He wasnt as impressed.

After Target, I stopped off at the McDonald's drive-thru. The same one as Tuesday. And I got the Ketchup Lady again. When I saw her, I thought, I dont have time for this... I'll make it easier for everyone. So, as she handed me my Happy Meal, I said "Can I get 5 ketchup packets?" She handed me four.

And I Cant Believe It

I left work early yesterday to meet Steve at the dirt that will one day be our new home. Masha was there, as was Christy, our pregnant Beazer Agent, and Scott the foreman for our building. Scott showed us all the plans, verified structural options like the powder room, the big ass master bath and the kitchen island. He pointed out where important things will go, like plumbing and electrical stuff and how the water will drain and blah blah blah. Scott was very nice, and he'll be getting lots of cookies and lemonade from me. We signed a bunch more paperwork and Scott said that barring any weather catastrophes or more problems from the war, my home should be built on time. In fact, he said he'll be calling in 35 days to do the pre-drywall walk-though. And 35 days from then, it will be complete.
Which is unbelievably exciting.
The best part of the meeting, though, was having the opportunity to walk through the other building that is being built. It had all the same options as ours. At that point, Steve realized he'll have to get the washer and dryer up to the third floor... something I told him several times before we bought the place. But it was great to stand in my Creative Memories workshop (which is going to be soooo cool) and stand in my kitchen and look out my kitchen window. Happy Happy Happy. The bedrooms are kinda small... but I convinced Steve that we just lucked out with two big master bedrooms in our previous apartments. We dont need that kind of room.
All that looking just made me want to move in already. I'm so ready to paint and decorate and paint and paint and paint. There will be not a single white wall in that house, if I can help it.
Well, we took a few pictures of the dirt, and us standing on it. End of next week, there should be a nice concrete slab in place.

I Will Buy You a New Life

Yesterday after work, I went to help some friends from church move in our new Worship Arts Pastor and his family. Curtis and Rachel and their two daughters, Kyra and Megan moved from Canada. We're very excited to have them as a part of our church and have been looking forward to their arrival for awhile.
So, I arrived, after the crew has been unloading the uhaul for almost an hour (cause you didnt actually think I'd do some heavy lifting, did you?). But, I brought with me, ice and cold drinks and now I am the Saint of all things cold and good. I walked my way into the kitchen, saying "Hi" to everyone. Rachel and I met in the hallway and she goes "I know you?" and I remind her "Yes, Sabrina." and she says "Sabrina!!!" and wrapped her arms around me, hugging me like she hadnt had a hug in 40 billion years. And you know me and my need to be needed... Rachel obviously needs a new best friend.
I spent the next few hours unpacking the kitchen with a few other women (that had babies on their hips). At some point, we were unpacking a box of vases, and Rachel commented that they could go way up high in a cabinet. I said "Aw, do you not get flowers often enough?" and she frowned and shook her head. How sad.
We got the kitchen finished, most people left, but Steve was still working on getting their cable set up. So, I volunteered to run out to Kroger and pick up some things she might need, like breakfast items. She gave me a list, and some cash and I headed out. While at Kroger, I thought, Rachel needs flowers. So, I picked out a small bouquet of wild flowers.
When I got back, I handed Rachel the flowers. She was very happy. She gave me another hug.
A while later, after I swiffered the kitchen floor and somehow volunteered to help her take down the ugliest wallpaper EVER, she said "I have to tell you something..." Already, deep dark secrets? We've only known each other for a few hours... "Before we left Canada, I got together with one of my closests friends, and she brought me flowers. When she left, I started crying, wondering who would bring me flowers now. And then you did!" Awwwww. She shoots, she scores!

I'm Lovin' It

I went through the McDonald's drive-thru on the way back to work from running errands during my lunch hour. I get to the part where she hands me my Happy Meal. I say "Could I get some ketchup?" She hands me one packet of ketchup. I kinda giggle and say "uh, a little more, please?" She hands me one more packet of ketchup. I think, you're kidding me? "Haha, maybe a little more?" She hands me one more packet of ketchup. I think, I wonder how long I could keep this up...
Now, I worked at McDonalds. I was even there when they decided to start charging for extra sauces with nuggets. I've heard the ketchup lecture plenty of times. I know ketchup packets dont grow on trees. But handing packets of ketchup one at a time, in a drive-thru, is just plain silly. If it werent for the people waiting behind me (which I imagined were shaking their fists in the air and cursing me), I would have continued to play the one-packet-at-a-time game.
Instead, I only used one packet of ketchup with my lunch, just to spite her.
